Restoring Aluminum Bike Parts

Ray Dobbins has an excellent section on restoring aluminum parts (raydobbins.com).  I followed his advice in resotring the aluminum parts on the Schwinn Paramount project.  The anodized finish was easily stripped used oven cleaner as show in the Cinelli stem below.

Aluminum has a nice look to it when it is power polished with buffing compound.

Some parts can’t be brought to the better than factory look, but it was pretty close.  Their was heavy pitting on the seat post.  Lots of grinding and polishing later, it turned out pretty good.
