T8 lighting installation

Following the previously mentioned sawmillcreek.com article, I installed t8 lighting in the garage. For 100 lumen/sq ft, I calculated I would need about 16 32watt t8 bulbs. That article was about right as I can see everything without a need for a task light. The quality of light from the t8 bulbs is fantastic. Spacing them about 6 feet apart spreads the light out evenly and does not create shadows on whatever was illuminated. I am using Phillips neutral (3500k) 32 watt bulbs which give a very natural light.

Can one put them in pull-down fixtures? Why does an electrician have to install them? What’s special about installation?

You could, if it hooks up to a plug. Mine do hook up to a plug, so an electrician is not necessary since the lights can be disconnected by pulling the plug.
